Lou plays a Hollywood #8 on his tenor and a Traditional/Contemporary #8 on his soprano sax A seasoned performance artist, arranger and composer, Lou Marini has electrified audiences with his "sultry, seductive and singular" sounds. Fluent in jazz, rock, blues and classical music, Marini is accomplished on saxophone, flute and clarinet. Best known to the general public for his role as one of the Blues Brothers, Lou Marini was in the original Saturday Night Live Band, where the Blues Brothers originated. Though he left the SNL band after the death of John Belushi, he is still a Blues Brother, playing in both movies and on all their recordings, and touring worldwide and Marini appears in the "Blues Brothers 2000" movie. Other films Marini has lent his talents to are "The Ref," "The Wiz," "Bright Lights Big City," "Burning Bed," "Bye Bye Birdie," "Turner & Hooch," "Mixed Nuts" and a "Family Thing." Marini's accomplishments are not limited to film. He has played on numerous albums, many of which have gone platinum. He has recorded with such luminaries as Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Jose Carreras, Maureen McGovern, Lou Reed and Frank Zappa. In addition to collaborating with acclaimed individual artists, Marini has performed with some of the industry's most prominent bands such as Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Dr. John, Blood Sweat and Tears, The Band and Steely Dan to name just a few. No stranger to television, Marini was one of the original members of the "Saturday Night Live" Band, playing on the show from 1976-1983. He was also saxophone soloist for Billy Preston's Band on "Nightlife" and has made numerous appearances on "The David Letterman Show," the Grammy Awards, as well as countless television specials. |
